The O.M Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund was established on July 25, 1993 to honor the memory of the late Olga Martin Brown,
who was a former teacher and retired principal. Scholarships from the fund, which will be given yearly, will
help family members and friends to commemorate the life of Olga Martin Brown, who was a Christian devoted to her church, and
a dedicated educator. Her exemplary life taught others lessons in courage, concern, dedication, commitment
efficiency and trust that will help those whom she touched throughout their lives. The O.M.
Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide financial support, encouragement and assistance to individual members of St.
Paul Missionary Baptist Church who wish to seek a college education. The first scholarship award(s) will be given
for the academic year commencing in the Spring of 1994.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Applicants should
be active members of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for at least three years prior to the date of application.
2. Applicants among the St. Paul membership may be any high school graduate interested in pursuing a college degree in Education
3. Applicants should have worked with at least two (2) church auxiliaries.
4. Applicants should have maintained
at least a 2.7 grade point average
GUIDELINES
1. Application forms will be made available to
the St Paul membership by the Scholarship Committee, and should be returned no later than April 15th.
2. Scholarship
amounts will be awarded in the recipient's name to the College or University where acceptance has been verified, upon
presentation of a copy of the registration form to the Scholarship Committee
SELECTION CRITERIA
Scholarship
recipients will be determined by the Scholarship Committee. The following criteria will be considered:
* Scholastic
promise, * Motivation, * Character, and * Community involvement
In 2005 the committee revised
the guidelines to include financial assistance for books. This award is given each semester to every scholarship recipient
who is pursuing a degree at a community college or a four year university.
Beginning August of 2008 the scholarship
amount to be awarded to a qualified applicant increased to $600. Students who return to obtain a master or doctoral degree
can reapply to receive the scholarship.
